WHAT IS MOISTURIZING?
Moisturizing is a process whereby a moisturizing product is applied to the hair especially the tip to help keep the hair well hydrated. A well moisturized hair does not tend to get dried easily and is not so prone to breakage because dry hair is one of the factors of hair breakage.
WHAT IS SEALING?
Sealing is a process where a small amount of oil is applied to the hair especially the ends to lock in the moisture. This oil enables the moisture to be sealed into the hair fibers and keep the hair hydrated for longer.
WHEN SHOULD HAIR BE MOISTURIZED AND SEALED
Moisturizing our hair once a week will not meet the moisture requirement our hair needs in other to stay healthy especially black hair which is prone to been dry. Furthermore, due to our climate, our hair tends to evaporate moisture quickly. Even a hair that has undergone chemical processes such as relaxing and colour treatment will lose moisture quickly. So our hair ought to be moisturized and sealed daily in other for it to be healthy, shiny, smooth and able to resist breakage. I suggest to ladies who are just starting a hair journey to moisturize and seal twice a day and as they progress into their hair journey they will find out that their hair only needs to be moisturized once a day or once in two days.
It is essential that you have a good moisturizer that has good benefits to your hair rather than the ones packed with synthetic oils like mineral oil and lanolin oil.

Example of oils that are mostly used as sealants are:

- Grape seed oil
- Extra Virgin Cold Pressed coconut oil
- Jojoba oil(this oil is light and can be used on thin hair)
- Castor oil( this oil is heavy and most times people mix it with another oil- do not use if you have thin hair, it is mostly used by people with coarse hair)
- Almond Oil
TIPS ON HOW TO MOISTURIZE AND SEAL YOUR HAIR
Moisturizing and sealing your hair is not a very difficult task if you know how to do it the right way. It might take some time but it is definitely worth it.
- Moisturize and seal in sections as this allows better distribution of products to the hair. Almost everything i do, i do it in sections as this enables me manage my hair more when am doing something with it so as to prevent matting and tangling.
- Moisturize your hair before sealing it. If you apply the oil before the moisturizer you will not seal in the moisture. so apply moisturizer first then your sealant which is the oil.
- Do not mix the two of them together.i.e the oil and moisturizer. Mixing them together will not achieve the same result as when you apply it differently.
- Focus on the tips of your hair as this is the oldest part of your hair and will lose its moisture quickly and its where breakage is likely to start from.
- Do not use too much of your products......a little is okay. If you apply too much then your hair will become weighed down and will feel oily. i used too much of the product at the begining of my hair journey and i did not like how my hair felt at all. I was looking forward to my next wash day so bad.
- If you want to detangle your hair then i suggest you use your fingers. your fingers are the best detangling tools. If at all you want to use a comb then use a wide tooth comb.
