This post is going to be a two in one post. Am going to be talking about hair conditioners and balancing protein and moisture in your hair.
WHAT ARE HAIR CONDITIONERS?
Hair conditioner is a hair care product that sef uhelps to change the texture and appearance of hair. Hair conditioners are mostly used after washing the hair with shampoo. Some people like using conditioner to cleanse their hair. Its called co-wavgsh.
According to Wikipedia, there are three types of conditioner. which are:
PACK CONDITIONER: This type of conditioner are heavy and thick and are usually applied to the hair for a longer period of time. it has a higher viscosity( the state of being thick, sticky and semi fluid in consistency) and they tend to form thicker layers on the surface of the hair.
LEAVE IN: Leave in conditioner are more thinner than pack conditioners and is less viscous. Leave in conditioners are used to prevent hair tangling and to make it smooth.
ORDINARY CONDITIONER: This conditioner combine some aspect of pack conditioner and leave in conditioner. They are usually applied directly after shampoo. Am guessing this is the kind of conditioner most of us use......just a guess work.
Well to me i feel like conditioners should be grouped under moisturizing and protein. That brings us to the second aspect of the post.
We need both of the type of conditioner because both play vital roles in ensuring that our hair is healthy. I shall explain further on why we need both and the importance of achieving a balance between the both of them.
MOISTURIZING CONDITIONER AND WHY WE NEED IT
Our hair tends to feel dry especially black hair and that is when moisturizing conditioner comues in. After hair has been cleansed, Moisturizing conditioner helps to boost the moisture content in our hair making it more manageable, flexible and easy to detangle, Moisturizing conditioner should be used more often than a protein conditioner especially if you are just starting your hair joirney. Reason being that ladies who are just starting their hair journey tend to have excessive dry hair and using a moisture conditioner will help prevent that. P.S using too much or too little of a moisturizing conditioner can lead to breakage. Level of moisture a hair needs differs from hair to hair so it is important that you take time to know the level of moisture your hair needs
A good moisturizing conditioner should have water (aqua) as part of its ingredients if not the first.
Examples of good moisturizing conditioner
Our hair fiber structure is made of protein. Styling, general wear and tear and chemical such as relaxer break down the protein in our hair structure hence weakening the hair. Protein conditioner helps to rebuild the protein in the hair structure and makes the hair stronger. Some ladies use protein conditioner once a week whilst some use it once a month depending on the level of protein your hair needs. If your hair tends to break or shed a lot when you use a protein conditioner then you might be protein sensitive. The key is to find a level that is right for your hair.
A good protein conditioner should have hydrolyzed protein(collagen) as part of its ingredients.
Examples of a good protein conditioners
I hope you found this post informative. If you have any question about conditioning you could ask me on the comment section. My next posst will be steps on how to deep condition and get the benefits of your conditioner. Before then, please care for your hair.

Examples of good moisturizing conditioner
- Giovanni smooth as silk conditioner
- Creme of nature Argan oil intensive conditioning treatment
- Keracare humecto creme conditioner
Our hair fiber structure is made of protein. Styling, general wear and tear and chemical such as relaxer break down the protein in our hair structure hence weakening the hair. A good protein conditioner should have hydrolyzed protein(collagen) as part of its ingredients.
Examples of a good protein conditioners
- Organic root stimulator hair mayonnaise
- Motions CPR protein reconstructor
- Vitale olive oil hair mayonnaise
- ROTATING BETWEEN PROTEIN AND MOISTURE: This method involves using a protein conditioner on a wash day and using a moisture conditioner on your next wash day i.e alternating between the two
- MIXING: Mix both the protein and moisturizing conditioner when doing your conditioning
- DEEP CONDITIONING AND LEAVE IN: You can use a protein conditioner to deep condition and follow up with a moisture leave in conditioner or vrerse versa. This is the method i use for my hair and it has worked for me so far.r
